FRACTIONAL COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY
ALSO CALLED MICRONEEDLING
The Rejuvapen is a remarkable, non-laser, non-surgical treatment that causes skin to stimulate collagen production and fresh, new tissue. Skin tightens; wrinkles, fine lines, scarring, and hyperpigmentation significantly diminish; pores become finer, and the overall health and circulation of the skin is improved.
While the technology has been around for a while, the Rejuvapen has developed a remarkable method of improving the appearance of acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and stretch marks as well as fine lines and wrinkles. By creating tiny channels, or micro-injuries on your skin, the Rejuvapen’s micro-needling process stimulates your skin to repair itself, creating new collagen without any scar formation.
HOW DOES REJUVAPEN WORK?
Rejuvapen utilizes precisely spaced micro needles in a small cartridge to create invisible, vertical, micro perforations into the top layers of the skin. As a result, the skin shifts its natural repair mechanism into high gear and starts producing collagen and elastin. The self-repairing property of the skin is a 100% natural form of skin renewal. Adjustable needle length allows customized treatments from skin freshening to deep scar repair anywhere on the body. Skin becomes firmer and regains its elasticity, fine lines and wrinkles are visibly reduced, pores become firmer, circulation is stimulated and the overall condition of the skin improves.
After the initial treatment, patients often notice that their skin has a healthy pink glow and that fine lines are diminished. Skin naturally takes roughly four weeks to synthesize new collagen, but it is not until about four months that patients can see the full effect of Rejuvapen treatments. It is suggested that patients receive four treatments, spaced at least three weeks apart.
The Treatment:
The Rejuvapen treatment is a micro-needling treatment that stimulates the production of collagen in the skin. Since micro-needling enhances the production of collagen the treatment can reverse the signs of sun damage, improve the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks and hyper-pigmentation. Fine lines and wrinkles can be reduced and an overall healthier appearance of the skin will occur.
Areas to Treat:
Medical Microneedling can be used on all skin parts of the body (neck, décolleté, arms, legs and face.)
WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME?
Typically the healing time depends on the severity of the damaged skin and the depth of the procedure. Most commonly there may be some redness that resembles mild sunburn. This may last for 2-4 days. Some patients may have the redness dissipate within 24 hours. The skin will be pink or red in appearance for 24-48 hours, much like a sunburn with some minor bleeding and very occasionally some mild bruising. The skin may also feel warm, tight, and itchy for a short while. Generally, the inflammatory reaction of the skin is short and fades significantly after a couple of days. Patients with a more sensitive skin type or older patients may take longer to fully recover.
AFTERCARE TREATMENT
Use tepid water to cleanse the face for the first 48 hours following treatment and drying the area gently without rubbing. Always use clean hands to avoid infection. Avoid applying makeup products for the first 12 hours following treatment. Your aesthetician will advise you on use of appropriate, gentle skincare following the treatment.
It can take between 6-8 weeks before visible signs of skin regeneration are seen and the process will continue to evolve over the ensuing months providing a gradual improvement.

WHEN WILL YOU SEE RESULTS?
Patients may notice healthier-looking skin right away. However, keep in mind that dermal collagen remodeling occurs over time and it would not be realistic to expect damage that has happened to the skin over a long period of time to disappear right away. We suggest a series of 4-6 sessions depending on what the treatment is for. Individuals may not see final results until 3-6 months following the last appointment.
REJUVAPEN Q&A
The concept of microneedling is based on the skin’s ability to repair itself. Following an injury, our skin begins to dissolve damaged tissue in order to replace it with new cells. Microneedling creates precise micro-injuries in the skin, automatically triggering the repair process in the form of new collagen synthesis without scar tissue formation.
Because microneedling stimulates new collagen production, it can reverse the effects of sun damage, improve the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks and hyper-pigmentation, and improve the overall appearance of aging skin while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Because of the Rejuvapen’s variable needle depth, microneedling can be used on many parts of the body including the face, neck, décolletage, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back.
The unique design allows for individualized settings and a topical cream is applied for your comfort.
A typical procedure lasts about 45 minutes. However, depending on the size of the area, number of areas treated and the severity of the damage on the skin, this can vary.
The total reaction and healing time depends on the severity of the damaged skin, the depth of the repair process required and how aggressively the treatment is performed. Most patients have redness/pinkness (like a mild sunburn) for two to four days.
Many patients notice healthier looking skin after about two weeks. However, your skin’s natural repair process will continue over the course of several weeks. Dermal collagen remodeling takes time, and damage that has occurred over time will not disappear overnight. You may not see the final results until up to three to six months after your final session.
The number of treatments will be determined by your goals and your skin’s health. However, we recommend that most patients receive a series of four to six treatments spaced four weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks, or acne scars, the recommended treatment is six to eight sessions at four to six week intervals. We also recommend a maintenance plan to preserve your glow and the rejuvenating effects.
Microneedling is not recommended for pregnant women because the microneedles produce micro-injuries on the skin. The healing process, including the production of new collagen, requires vitamins and nutrients that would otherwise be reserved for the unborn child.
Microneedling is contraindicated for patients with a history of keloid scars, prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases, or cardiac abnormalities. Additionally, anyone with a hemorrhagic disorder or hemostatic dysfunction, or an active bacterial or fungal infection should not seek microneedling.
Typically, patients can resume their normal makeup and skin care regimen two to three days following a microneedling treatment. Some post-procedure makeup can be used immediately. Generally, Moisturizer is safe to use. However, this may vary based on the area and type of treatment performed, please consult your treatment provider for a precise recommendation.
